Turtle nesting diorama at the Frost Science Museum
Atomic Carrots is proud to unveil a new masterpiece at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science in Miami, Florida. This captivating diorama features sea turtle hatchlings emerging from their eggs. Located in the Marine Gallery, the project melds artistic beauty with vital marine conservation messaging. This immersive experience helps visitors connect deeply with the natural world through realistic storytelling.
Advanced Fabrication: 3D Printing and Thermal Styling
Our team used a specialized process to ensure the realism and educational impact of this exhibit. The hatchlings were first crafted using advanced 3D printing technology. After printing, each plastic model underwent a unique transformation.
We submerged the models in warm water to soften the plastic. This allowed our artists to reposition each turtle individually by hand. By styling their postures, we captured the frantic energy of a real hatching event. Finally, each model was hand-painted to achieve biologically accurate coloration. This technique provides a true-to-life experience that visitors can see and feel.
The Message: Jellyfish vs. Plastic Pollution
The exhibit goes beyond just the nesting turtles. The display also features two distinct jars for comparison. One jar contains a real, preserved jellyfish. The second jar holds a sadly familiar discarded plastic bag.
This intentional comparison highlights a critical environmental crisis. Sea turtles often cannot tell the difference between plastic and their natural prey. When they ingest marine debris, it can fatally block their digestive systems. This visual commentary sparks conversations about the urgent need to protect our oceans.
A Legacy of Conservation Partnerships
This project reflects our ongoing commitment to marine education. Atomic Carrots has collaborated with prestigious partners like Padre Island National Seashore. We also worked with Biscayne National Park on previous conservation initiatives.
These partnerships allow us to address marine debris from multiple angles. We aim to inspire change by raising awareness through artistic excellence. Our work at Frost Science continues this tradition of high-impact environmental advocacy.
Call to Action for Our Oceans
The Sea Turtle Nesting Diorama is more than a static exhibit. It serves as a powerful call to action for every museum visitor. We hope this work sparks a sense of wonder and collective responsibility.
Art has the unique capacity to transcend boundaries and connect us to nature. Atomic Carrots continues to use creativity as a tool for global conservation. Contact us today to learn how we can bring your ecological story to life.
